Jan 8

"This tragedy has had a profound effect on many members of our racing community in Ontario and it was important for us to step in and lend a hand to a group of people who are the backbone of our industry," said Bruce Barbour, executive director of Racing operations at Flamboro and Georgian Downs regarding this week's tragic fire at Classy Lane Stables.

Great Canadian Gaming, which operates those two Ontario tracks as well as the two horse racing venues in BC. Many of the horses who perished in the fire had raced often at Great Canadian's two Ontario locations.

"A barn fire of this magnitude is just an awful situation for those impacted by this tragedy," added Barbour in the release announcing Great Canadian's contribution of $5,000 to the fundraiser started by the Central Ontario Standardbred Association which may be viewed here.
