Mission Brief Waltzes In Elegantimage
Sep 19

Mission Brief crunched the field in the $404,000 Elegantimage Stakes final for 3-year-old trotting fillies on Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack, winning in an easy 1:52.4.

There was a bit of a scramble in the early going with elimination winner Muscle Baby Doll (Doug McNair) giving Hambletonian Oaks champion Wild Honey (John Campbell) the cold shoulder at the :26.4 opening quarter. Mission Brief (Yannick Gingras) had been in mid-pack watching that, but in the backstretch she came three-wide around Wild Honey and took over the lead from Muscle Baby Doll right at the :55.2 half.

Mission Brief began to open up on the field around the far turn and over to the 1:23.3 three-quarters, and she was on absolute cruise control through the lane as she reported home with an 5 1/2 length decision over a resilient Wild Honey. Elegant Serenity (Roger Mayotte), the daughter of the series' namesake, checked in the third spot with Danielle Hall (Jody Jamieson) and Youre Majestic (Sylvain Filion) back in fourth and fifth, respectively.

"She was amazing tonight. I didn't even start her up; the plugs are still in," a beaming Gingras said of Mission Brief. "She just toyed with them. She's just a different class. There was plenty of speed; there were a couple of horses on the outside. Tonight she was really relaxed. She drove two fingers. I was able to put Jody (Jamieson and Danielle Hall) in the hole around the first turn. I took control of the race after that."
