Golden Receiver Goes Gate To Wire In Pacing Championship Aug 4
Considering that a dozen of the top free for all pacers started in today’s $242,500 US Pacing Championship at the Meadowlands, there was surprisingly little action.

Leaving from post one, Andy Miller and Golden Receiver grabbed early control to guide the impressive group past the opening marker in :26.2. He continued on top past the :54.1 half and by the 1:21.1 three-quarters he was pacing as a team with Aracache Hanover, who hadn’t seen the rail the entire mile, and right behind him was Foiled Again who was also parked the entire mile.
Golden Receiver and Aracache Hanover raced together through the stretch but the former would not be denied and hit the wire first in 1:48. Aracache Hanover had to settle for the place spot, just like last year's event, followed by Meirs Hanover and defending champion We Will See.
“If they didn’t loop me off the gate they weren’t getting around me,” said Andy Miller of his game plan.
As for his strategy during the third quarter when Aracache and George Brennan came to call he noted: “I just wanted to give my horse a little breather there. He was coming kind of easy, we were just pacing together until the top of the lane. They keep coming but he keeps digging too.”
It was the 11th win in 18 tries this year for Golden Receiver who has been dominant at the Meadowlands this season winning the Presidential, Spring Championship and the Graduate previously.

When trainer Mark Harder was asked how he kept him so sharp he said: “He’s just a good horse. We can take credit as trainers but if they don’t stay healthy and aren’t good horses you’re not keeping them there. He stayed healthy and he stayed good.”
Owned by Stable 43, Florida, Richard Taylor, Stephen Springer and Nina Simmonds of New York, Golden Receiver upped his 2012 earnings over $528,000. Lifetime the seven-year-old son of Village Jove has $1,182,675 banked.
