Lizzies Dream used her usual off the pace late kick to capture the $11,500 featured fillies and mares winner’s over event on Friday night at Tioga Downs.
Lizzies Dream and Mike Merton ducked off of the gate from post position number five and had to be loving every moment when they saw the fractions of 27.1 and 54.4 on the front end. Down the backside Raiders Favorite (Jason Mac Dougall) pulled first over from fifth giving Lizzies Dream the perfect second over trip.
Around the final turn, Merton tipped Lizzies Dream three wide and she responded opening up to win by a length and a half in a new lifetime best of 1:53. The six-year old daughter of Dream Away – Vicki Liz is trained by Joe Moeykens for owner Christine Zigrossi of New York. It was the third win in twenty three seasonal starts for Lizzie’s Dream who with the win increased her career earnings to more than $200,000.
Corey Braden and Greg Merton each posted driving doubles on the night’s ten race card.
