Canadian Aged Trot Records Lowered At Georgian Jul 7
There were four Masters Series finals for aged Ontario-bred pacers and trotters on Saturday night at Georgian Downs, but Daylon Magician and Frenchfrysnvinegear's performances stood out.
Daylon Magician lowered his own all-age Canadian record for an aged trotter on a five-eighths mile track and Frenchfrysnvinegar broke the Canadian record for an aged mare trotter on a five-eighths mile track.
The Masters Series pacing finals went to Sparky Mark and Camille. Camille tied the Canadian record for an aged mare pacer on a five-eighths mile track.
Daylon Magician (Jack Moiseyev) was third at the :27.2 opening quarter in the $162,000 Masters Series final for trotting horses and geldings, but he would move to the lead before the :55.4 half-mile marker.
From there Daylon Magician would reach three-quarters in 1:24.2 and the finish line in 1:52 flat. He defeated second-place finisher Tamarind (Billy Davis Jr.) by nine and a half lengths while Imperial Count (Scott Zeron) grabbed third.
Moiseyev also trains Daylon Magician, a four-year-old son of Kadabra, for owner Daylon Farms Ltd. Daylon Magician has won four times from six attempts this year, and he has 18 career victories. He has put away $163,312 in 2012 and $1,457,425 lifetime.
Earlier on the program Frenchfrysnvinegar (Jody Jamieson) was on the point through panels of :27.1, :55.2, and 1:24.2 on her way to her Canadian record clocking of 1:52.3 in the $159,000 Masters Series event for trotting mares. Magic Wheel (Joe Hudon) came in second, beaten by four and three-quarter lengths, and third went to China Pearls (Paul MacDonell).
Jeff Gillis trains Frenchfrysnvinegar, a seven-year-old Angus Hall mare, for owner Dave Smith. Frenchfrysnvinegar has five wins from 15 starts this year and 26 career victories. She has earned $189,090 in 2012 and $802,625 lifetime.
Camille (Brett Miller) tied Dreamfair Eternal's Canadian record of 1:50.3 in winning the $160,000 Masters Series final for pacing mares.
She worked out a second-over trip and then paced a :28.1 final quarter to get up for the victory by two and three-quarter lengths. Warrawee Koine (Anthony MacDonald), who led at the :25.4 opening quarter before she yielded to sit the pocket behind Western Silk (Scott Zeron) through middle-half panels of :54 and 1:21.4, was next, followed by Monkey On My Wheel (Rick Zeron).
Dave Menary trains Camille, a four-year-old Camluck mare, for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Weaver Bruscemi LLC., M1 Stable LLC. and Jack Piatt III. She has won five times from ten starts this year, and she has 14 career victories. She has put away $224,750 in 2012 and $545,720 lifetime.
Sparky Mark (Sylvain Filion) grabbed top honours in the $162,000 Masters Series final for horse and gelding pacers. He was in front through fractions of :27, :55, and 1:23 on his way to a three-quarter length decision in 1:50.4. Mystician (Scott Zeron) followed the eventual winner from the pocket and finished second with Bigtime Ball (Paul MacDonell) back in third.
Mark Austin trains Sparky Mark, a five-year-old son of Astreos, for owner and breeder Leo Thibodeau. Sparky Mark scored his fourth win in his 13th try this season and he has 24 career triumphs. He has banked $170,350 on the campaign and $501,940 in his life.
