Rebeka Bayama sat third for the first three-quarters of a mile and then rallied by the leaders in the lane to take the $42,000 fillies and mares open pace on Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack. The final time of the mile was 1:50 flat.
Laneside Lexus (Billy Davis Jr.) set the tempo in the race, chopping out fractions of :26.2, :54.4, and 1:22.3. Maureen Rocks (Doug McNair) was in the pocket for the first half of the race, but then McNair brought her to the outside at three-quarters in front of Rebeka Bayama (Sylvain Filion).
In the stretch Maureen Rocks joined Laneside Lexus, but Rebeka Bayama had the measure of both of them, and behind a :26.4 final kicker, she would get up to win by two lengths. Strike An Attitude (Randy Waples) surged from seventh and last at three-quarters to grab second and Swinging Beauty (Chris Christoforou) took third.
Justin Filion trains Rebeka Bayama, a five-year-old Leader Bayama mare, for owner-breeder Bayama Farms Inc. Rebeka Bayama has three wins from six starts this year, and she has 19 career victories. She has earned $67,200 in 2012 and $359,128 lifetime.
