Accident In Mohawk Finale
May 26

A two-horse spill occurred inside the final sixteenth of the mile in the tenth and final race on the Thursday night program at Mohawk Racetrack.

The accident happened when heavily-favoured If I Didnt Care (Jody Jamieson), who had broken stride before the start only to make a huge recovery to get into contention, got rough, made another break, and then fell while moving up on the outside of leader Rockratrese (Scott Zeron). When If I Didnt Care fell, Jamieson's bike got turned so that he was ejected towards the inside of the track.

Meanwhile, Dancers Cam (Mark MacDonald), who had a two-hole trip but then had fallen back towards the middle of the pack in the lane, could not avoid the fallen If I Didnt Care or Jamieson's bike, and Dancers Cam also fell with MacDonald being thrown several feet in the air before landing hard on the track himself.

According to a post on Facebook by Chris Baise, who is the attendant in the drivers' room at Woodbine and Mohawk, Jamieson is being taken by his wife Stephanie to the hospital in Guelph, Ontario, for further examination while MacDonald was taken by ambulance to Hamilton General hospital for surgery. He has facial injuries and a possible broken clavicle.

Baise's post also says that both of the horses involved were able to return to the paddock.
