Backstretch Brush Propels Mojito Hall
Mar 12

Mojito Hall rocketed from seventh to first between the opening quarter and the half and then held sway from there to win the $10,900 free-for-all handicap pace on Saturday night at Balmoral Park in 1:51.2.

Special Joe (Sam Widger) got the nod off the wings of the gate, but he would be overtaken for the top spot by My Boy David (Marcus Miller) before the :27.1 opening quarter. My Boy David would then yield to entry-mate Park Lane Hotshot (Mike Oosting) past the opening quarter.

Mojito Hall (Brian Carpenter) was already out and moving as Park Lane Hotshot was clearing to the front, and Mojito Hall would touch down on the engine at the :56.2 half. Mojito Hall then reached three-quarters in 1:23.3 while maintaining a one and three-quarter length advantage.

Through the stretch Mojito Hall remained stout, and he would pace away from all his competitors en route to a two and a quarter length victory. Park Lane Hotshot was the runner-up with Special Joe rounding out the triactor.

Donna Lee Ozment trains Mojito Hall, a five-year-old by Blissfull Hall, for owner JL Benson Stables Inc. This was Mojito Hall's third win from five tries this year and his ninth career victory. He has now earned $10,300 in 2011 and $73,878 in his life.
