Upper Canada Cup Elims Set

The first major Ontario test for the glamour boys, the Upper Canada Cup eliminations, will take place Saturday night at Georgian Downs with three $25,000 eliminations. The top three finishers from each will qualify for the $500,000 (added) Final on May 22 at the Innisfil, Ontario track.

Red Bugler, a winner of eight of 10 last year at two, has drawn the rail in the first test, race three. Keith Oliver will drive the Cammibest colt as usual for trainer Rheal Bourgeois and owners/breeders Sheila and Don Anness of Emo, Ontario.

This will be the first start this year for the gelding who enters Saturday night’s contest off three qualifiers, the last one a win on Monday at Mohawk in 1:53.

Keystone Raptor, a winner of $190,000 last year during his rookie season, has drawn post three for Jack Moiseyev and trainer John Kopas in the first division. The Astreos son tuned up for the Upper Canada Cup with a second place finish in the Bud Light Stakes at Flamboro last Friday.


Haul Away (New Image Media)

The richest starter in the second division, race five, is the Modern Art colt Haul Away who hauled in $198,000 during his rookie campaign. Owned by Larry Menary, Denis Breton, Phil Silvestri and Joseph Settimi, the colt had six wins in 11 tries last season.

Trained by David Menary and driven by Jody Jamieson, Haul Away made his first 2010 start last Saturday at Woodbine where he finished third to older horses timed in 1:51.1.

The third split is led by Wellthereyougo who took in $295,000 during his debut season in 2009 for trainer Dr. Ian Moore who co-owns with Serge Savard and the RG McGroup Ltd. The son of Camluck will leave from post three.

His competition includes Stonebridge Tonic from post six with Doug McNair in the sulky for dad Gregg who trains and co-owns with breeder Angie Stiller, Artana Stables and Len Gamble. Another son of Camluck, Tonic won his first 2010 start last week in his Bud Light division at Flamboro.
