Nebupanezzar Becomes Harness Racing's Newest Millionaire
Nov 15

The weather outside is frightful but Nebupanezzar was just delightful as he won the $300,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final for two-year old colt and gelding pacers.

Nebupanezzar, who usually relies on his sharp late kick for his victories, showed early speed tonight as regular driver Steve Condren sent him to the point from post six, and he would hang up an opening quarter in 27.1 seconds.

The field of seven raced in straight alignment up the backstretch, so Condren was able to get Nebupanezzar a half in 56.2, and that allowed him to fend off the first-over bid of Millionaire Cam (Jody Jamieson) at the 1:25.4 three-quarter mile marker.

In the stretch, Nebupanezzar kicked away from his rivals through the snowflakes, and at the wire, he was open lengths clear of the field. The final time of the mile over the sloppy surface was 1:55 flat. Longshot Stonebridge Terror (Mike Saftic) rallied for second and Trail Boss (Doug McNair), who had the two-hole trip in the race, got third despite a break in the stretch.

Bob McIntosh trains Nebupanezzar, a No Pan Intended-Western Wonder colt, for owner and breeder Peter Pan Stables, which is the nom de course of Ohio resident Bob Glazer. Nebupanezzar won for the 10th time in 13 starts in his freshman campaign, and he has now earned $1,088,050.
