In a surprise announcement this afternoon Pat and Jim Bullock of Glengate Farms have announced that they will be retiring from the Standardbred breeding business.
The Campbellville, Ontario farm will close its stallion station and disperse its entire inventory of mares. Discussions are underway to relocate stallions Angus Hall, Apaches Fame, Duke Of York and Mantacular for the 2006 breeding season. Upon conclusion of these discussions, a further announcement will be issued.
“Pat and I reached the conclusion that with no one in our family involved in or particularly interested in the management of the breeding business, the time has come for this change. As everyone knows, the business is very much hands on seven days a week.
"Although this is obviously an emotional decision for us, we have no regrets, we’ve enjoyed the past 14 years in the business and are proud of the many accomplishments of Glengate Farms,” said Jim Bullock.
“Pat and I want to acknowledge the dedication and loyalty of the people who have worked with us. In particular Doug Nash, Aimee Kamminga, John Nash and Don Findlay who are very much a part of the success we’ve enjoyed. We are by no means leaving the business as we plan to continue our racing stable and remain active owners.”
The mares and 2005 weanlings will be dispersed over the next few months through various auctions beginning with Standardbred Canada’s Fall Extravaganza on November 5th in London, Ontario.
