Marcel And The Phantom
May 17

Marcel Barrieau has never gone to a performance of Phantom of the Opera nor did he go shopping last fall for a roan yearling. But he came home from the Forest City Yearling Sale with a yearling named in recognition of that famed theatrical production.

Phantom Seelster is one of two youngsters that the Cambridge, Ontario, horseman acquired to take to Pompano Park last winter. The colt (now gelding) is a son of Mach Three - Pentecostal that he and partners had to pony up $74,000 to own.

That in itself is not unique for the markings of the horse. A registered roan, Phantom Seelster features a very distinct brown coloured patch on his face which is quite similar to the mask worn by the principal character in the play leading Seelster Farms to give him the Phantom name.

In today's edition of The Harness Edge's two-year-olds in training series, Barrieau who is based at Shamrock Training Centre, presents his two youngsters and offers his thoughts on their progress.
