Breeder Ken Gunn owns Senga Nitro and he has continued his parentsí tradition of naming his homebreds Senga, which is his motherís name backwards. The son of the late Brad and Agnes Gunn, pioneers of Standardbred racing and breeding in Western Canada, Gunnís entrant looks to be worthy contender.

A son of Blue Burner, Senga Nitro made his 2017 debut in the Linton Memorial last week and was a 1:56.3 victor. He was close to unbeatable last season at two with six wins and a second in eight starts for $94,766 in earnings. He established a track record at Century Downs last year in winning an Alberta Sire Stakes event.

Ryan Grundy trains and drives the talented sophomore and theyíll depart from post five on Friday night. Right alongside in the six spot is the other elim victor, DA Magician, with trainer and owner Serge Masse at the lines.

DA Magician has two wins and a third in four starts so far this year. The son of Dragon Again, who was euthanized yesterday, had a summary of 5-2-1 from 12 attempts last season.

Bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, DA Magician is the third foral from Hottie Hanover, a Real Desire daughter campaigned by Dustin Jones and a half-sister to Holborn Hanover ($2.1 million), Hyperion Hanover ($1.2 million) and Hillbilly Hanover ($928,000), etc.
