Aug 18

Power Of A Moment and Rock Hollywood won the pair of the $35,000 State Fair Colt Stakes for sophomore pacing and trotting males on Wednesday afternoon at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

With Marcus Miller at the controls, Power Of A Moment was on the lead in the final for three-year-old colt and gelding pacers through panels of :27.1, :56.2, and 1:25.1.

Off that middle half in 58 seconds, Power Of A Moment zipped home in :25.3 over the mile oval to win the race by two and a half lengths in 1:50.4. Fox Valley Barbosa (Brian Carpenter) followed the winner from the pocket at every call and finished second while Iam Bonasera (Dave Magee), who was eighth at three-quarters, came his last quarter in a charted :24.4 to claim third.

Trainer Erv Miller also co-owns Power Of A Moment, a Cole Muffler gelding, with partners Leland Mathias and Bert Hochsprung. Power Of A Moment has won three of his ten starts this year, and he now has 15 career victories. He has now pocketed $69,601 in 2010 and $361,201 lifetime.

In the Colt Stakes final for sophomore trotting colts and geldings, Rock Hollywood (Dave Magee) took over the lead past the :28.3 opening quarter, and then he hit the half in 58 seconds flat and the three-quarters in 1:26.3.

A first-over Showmeyourstuff (Marcus Miller) got to within a head of the leader at three-quarters, but in the stretch Rock Hollywood put Showmeyourstuff and the rest of the field away as he trotted clear to tally by three and a half lengths in 1:54. Powerful Speed (Todd Warren) was the runner-up and Muscatine (Dale Hiteman) came in third.

Mike Brink trains Rock Hollywood, a gelded son of Psychic Spirit, for owner Kjell Magne Andersen. This was Rock Hollywood's second win from six trips behind the gate this year and his seventh career triumph. He has now earned $59,930 on the campaign and $155,197 in his life.
